We’re thrilled to share that Maggie Chassé, a Van Andel Institute Graduate School Ph.D. student in the lab, was awarded an American Association for Cancer Research Margaret Foti Scholar-in-Training Award in Pediatric Cancer Research, which “recognizes outstanding young investigators for their meritorious work in pediatric cancer research.” It will support her travel to the AACR Annual Meeting to present her poster, Mithramycin amplifies the imbalance between the BAF and PRC2 complexes to drive apoptosis in rhabdoid tumor.
In addition, VAIGS M.D./Ph.D. student Guillermo Flores, Lab Manager Susan Goosen and Assistant Research Technician Katie Sorensen were selected to present posters at the meeting, with Guillermo being one of only a few people chosen for an oral poster discussion.

The Grohar Lab participated in another Michigan Pediatric Research Day, which brought together pediatric researchers from Wayne State University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Van Andel Research Institute and others. Jenna Gedminas, Maggie Chassé and Katie Sorensen all presented posters, and Guillermo Flores was invited to give a talk. Guillermo Flores won an award for best oral presentation, Maggie Chassé won best poster presentation by a graduate student and Katie Sorensen won best poster presentation by a research technician. Congratulations to all!!
Congratulations to Matt Harlow, Jennifer Jess and Guillermo Flores, who attended Michigan State University’s Pediatric Research Day in March and took home three out of five poster awards out of 77 posters overall!
